1952
In 1952, the DANDALIS company took its first steps. Alekos Dandalis, its founder, opened a coffee shop in the central market of Heraklion, Crete.
1977
In 1977, the DANDALI company, anticipating future developments, set up a coffee processing plant in a building on Ant. Kastrinaki Street, where it put its first coffee packaging machine into operation and, at the same time, began distributing packaged coffee to supermarkets and mini-markets in the area.
1986
In 1986, Alekos Dandalis’s children began working in the business, and the company was converted into a general partnership.
1990
In 1990, as demand for packaged coffee was on the rise, they began construction of a state-of-the-art factory in the Heraklion Industrial Park, Heraklion Industrial Park, with a total floor area of 1,500 square meters on a 3,000-square-meter lot.
1993
In 1993, the factory was completed and began to be equipped with the most advanced machinery available on the global market, covering all areas of operation, import, processing, packaging, and distribution of various types of Greek, French, and espresso coffee.
1995
In 1995, the company was incorporated as a public limited company and has since operated under the name ALEKOS T. DANDALIS & SONS S.A. and under the brand name «DANDALIS Coffee.» The company is managed by Alekos Dandalis, Chairman and CEO; Triantafyllos Dandalis, Vice Chairman; and Ioannis Dandalis, Board Member and Commercial Director. The exceptional quality of its products, which are available on the Greek market, ranks the company among the largest branded coffee processors in Greece.
2001
In 2001, the company decided to enter the catering sector by partnering with the Dutch company DOUWE EGBERTS and supplying coffee and other beverages to major hotel chains in Crete. Today, it holds a leading position in this market segment as well.
2017
In 2017, the company employed 35 people in production and sales and 8 people in administration. With the new investment, the factory’s production capacity is 8,500 kilograms per day. Locally, the company serves more than 2,500 retail outlets through its own distribution network and wholesale operations.
2025
Looking to the future with optimism, Dandali—after 73 years in business and having established a leading position in the Greek coffee market in Crete—continues to thrive. Drawing on its past experience, expertise, and trained staff, the company is charting new paths and setting new goals.

The history of coffee in Crete began in 1866 at a traditional shop in Heraklion’s central market, driven by the vision and aspirations of Alekos Dandalis. In 1952, Alekos Dandalis decided to turn his love and passion for good coffee into a career, and ever since then, he has been treating us all to the experience of a fine, aromatic coffee!
